I focus on a guiding phrase or concept every year. It’s less tactical than a resolution, easier to keep in mind, and doesn’t hold me to a standard I can’t (reasonably) meet.
Ironically, last year’s idea was “outside energy,” which was meant to push me to be a bit more social, a bit less no new friends, say yes to life, blah blah blah. Anyway, I can’t be sure, but the universe seemed to note my silly, jargony intention and, in fact, set me straight after 3 months.
In any event, my 2021 phrase is “water off a duck’s back.” Pulling away from the details; saying a hard nope to the temptations of the petty, the dramatic, the short-term. Not rabbit-holing over small missteps or recipes gone awry. It is 2021 and we are being strategic with our time and energies!!!
A FEW THINGS I COOKED THE MOST LAST YEAR
Because I am a vain creature, I search a lot in my own archives for recipes that I’m making again. So, in case it’s useful or inspiring for your new year menus, here’s a list of the recipes I liked best from 2020. And by that, I mean these are ones I referenced again and again over the past year because I couldn’t remember my own directions:
Chicken in a Bowl (aka, chicken bouillabaisse)
