Well, it’s been a while! Not much to offer in the way of excuses; I’ll just say that I’m pushing through a bit of creative burnout.
In the meantime, I’ve been cooking quite a bit, attempting to enjoy spring allergy season, and reading furiously, thanks to the time constraints imposed by a library card.
If you’ll excuse the omission, no recipe content this week while I get back into the habit of publishing. Instead, a surface-level Hot or Not of my library record as of late:
Library pops: Bungalow Kitchens (Jane Powell); the Outline trilogy by Rachel Cusk (I’m newly taken with her writing and cannot recommend it enough); Our Country Friends by Gary Shtyengart; A Very Nice Girl (Imogene Crisp); The Vanishing Half (Brit Bennett)
Library flops, for one reason or another: Fleishman is in Trouble; Three Martini Afternoons at the Ritz
AND QUITE A BIT OF INTERNET FARE
A few travel-minded pieces:
the real-life backdrops of Jane Eyre, in celebration of Charlotte Bronte’s recent birthday;
A travel guide to Tampa, America’s next greatest city;
Some escapism into interiors & other fineries of the domestic realm:
James Beard’s smelly-looking former NYC townhouse on the market;
And some food writing bits & bobs:
The design impact of the Japanese rice cooker;
“Mushrooms communicate with each other using up to 50 words”
The trend of food perfumes (I have recently bought into this trend with a saffron scent)
Welcome back Emily, lovely to find you in my inbox this morning!
Lovely to hear from you. I loved all the links, especially that beautiful house from the H&G website. I only recently discovered H&G (via of Cup of Jo) and just can't get enough of the photos and recipes (bonus). Also loved the Jane Eyre location stills.
Re your recent reading - I was also a bit ho hum about Fleishman is in Trouble (not my cup of tea) but will check out some of the other titles. Cheers!
